the museum of broken hearts

The Museum of Broken Hearts is a exhibition space created with the purpose of sharing people’s heartbreak stories through the display of their symbolic possessions. It’s a museum about all
of us and the ways in which we all love and lose. The original museum had a dull and somber brand. The goal was to design
a much more bolder and facetious brand to help minimize the pain of heartbreak.
Each element of the advertising materials was meticulously designed to reflect the essence of the museum’s mission, fostering a sense of connection and empathy among visitors. To do so,
I experimented with photo manipulation crafting visuals that conveyed the museum’s message in a compelling and
relatable way.

This coffee table book is a continuation of the Museum of Broken Hearts re-branding. It is meant to be sold inside of its gift shop.
The book is an examination of how all forms of art (paintings, music, film, theater, etc.) portray heartbreak and how some artists took their pain of heartbreak and turned it into art. While the heart can be broken for many reasons, in all forms of art the pain is still the same.
Throughout my educational journey, I’ve found a deep appreciation for infusing a tactile quality into my work. For this particular project, instead of digitally manipulating the images, I opted to physically tear and collage them to craft the exterior covers. I believe this process effectively captures the essence of heartbreak, bringing raw emotion to the artistic expression.
