The Salem Public Art Commission sought to enhance the accessibility and visibility of its diverse contemporary and historical art collections
by introducing a new outdoor signage system throughout the city. In collaboration with four other designers, this project involved researching existing signage systems, potential vendors, and designing adaptable and responsive signs to accommodate artworks of varying sizes. The initiative included creating a standardized signage format for future additions to Salem's collection and ensuring that the new system is prepared for fabrication and installation by summer 2024.
Our main objective was to develop signage that is durable, informative, ADA-accessible, and aligned with the city's existing design standards,
thereby broadening the collection's appeal to a wider audience.

As part of this project, I was individually tasked with updating the design of the Salem Public Art Collection landing page. The signage includes
a QR code that directs users to this page, where they can explore the various art collections, learn more about the pieces housed in the Salem Public Art collection, and interact with a map to discover additional artworks throughout the city. While there were challenges due to the limited editing capabilities of the salem.gov website, I focused on optimizing the user experience by streamlining the layout, enhancing
the visual appeal, and improving accessibility.
Ultimately, these updates aimed to create a more engaging platform that better connects the community with Salem’s vibrant public art collection. View the transformation of the landing page below:
